Can you officiate, and is registration required?
Alaska asks for no registration from a minister, priest or rabbi of a church or congregation in the state, or from judicial officers and certain officials. Anyone else, including a friend or relative, is appointed a marriage commissioner by an Alaska court for one named couple, date and place, and should have the written appointment order in hand before the ceremony. The couple applies to the state licensing office for the license, which carries a three-day wait and stays valid three months.
Who returns the license, and by when
The person who solemnizes the marriage completes the certificate and submits it to the local registrar within seven days after the date of the marriage. Mail time is part of that week in a state with slow mail, so confirm the window with the licensing office.
