Can you officiate, and is registration required?
Nebraska sets no officiant registration, credential filing or residency condition. Every judge, retired judge, clerk magistrate or retired clerk magistrate, and every preacher of the gospel authorized by the usages of the church to which they belong, may perform the ceremony, and the statute is annotated as not limiting authority to those named. Whether an online ordination meets the usages-of-the-church test is not addressed by any official Nebraska source reviewed, so ask the issuing county clerk. The couple gets the license from a county Clerk; it must be used within one year of issuance and only for a ceremony performed inside Nebraska.
Who returns the license, and by when
The person who performed the ceremony makes the return to the county clerk who issued the license within fifteen days after the marriage, and the return must show the names and residences of at least two witnesses who were present. Collect those at the ceremony rather than reconstructing them later, and confirm the window with the issuing clerk.
